AFO Rules and Regulations
AFO Rules and Regulations
In Kentucky, Animal Feeding Operations (AFOs) that have a liquid waste handling system are required to obtain a Kentucky No Discharge Operating Permit (KNOP) to legally operate. In order to apply for the KNOP, a completed Short Form B and Nutrient Management Plan must be submitted. There is no fee for the KNDOP.
AFOs are required to have a Nutrient Management Plan (NMP), regardless of whether or not they discharge and regardless of whether or not the manure that they manage is liquid or solid (dry).
In Kentucky, any farm having more than 10 acres is also required to keep an updated AG Water Quality Plan in addition to their NMP.
